Dr. Paul von Bünau is managing director at idalab with more than ten years experience in leading and implementing cutting-edge data science projects. For our clients, Paul focuses on integrating strategy, methodology, and product perspectives. He previously worked at SAP, Fraunhofer, Deutsche Bank, and RDRS Bangladesh. Paul holds a PhD in data science from TU Berlin, an MSc in pure mathematics (St Andrews, Scotland) and a BSc in computer science.

Serena Rota

Administrative & Research Assistant

Serena Rota is responsible for the office administration, research, and social media strategy at idalab. Working for more than six years in creative environments, she performed content management and carried out HR activities for start-ups, galleries, and artists. Serena holds an MA in history of art and is currently specialising in arts management.

Niels Reinhard

Data Strategist

During his years as a management consultant, Niels Reinhard acquired vast experience in planning and executing strategic projects for clients in the financial and manufacturing sector. He has worked in Turkey, Russia and the US and is now responsible for data strategy at idalab. Niels holds a BA in international relations and graduated within the top 5% from Copenhagen Business School with an MSc in business. Additionally, he holds a CEMS Master in international management.

Daniel Kirsch

Data Scientist

Daniel Kirsch is a mathematician who has developed data products for several years. His knowledge ranges from machine learning to user experience. He is an expert in statistics, predictive modelling, and interactive data visualisation, and masters many programming languages. Daniel co-founded the Open Knowledge Lab and advocates the use of data science in non-profit organisations on a voluntary basis. Daniel holds an MSc in mathematics and computer science from WWU Münster.

Léonard Ruedin

Data Strategist

Léonard Ruedin worked for several years in boutique consulting firms, advising leading companies in the biopharmaceutical industry. He has specialised in analytics, software product management, and business strategy. Léonard holds a BSc in biology from the University of Geneva and an MSc in medical neurosciences from the Charité Berlin.

Lea Helmers

Data Scientist

Lea Helmers is specialised in machine learning with a focus on natural language processing. She joined idalab in 2016 and, since then, has worked in data science projects in various fields of application. Lea holds a BSc in mathematics from FU Berlin, a BA in linguistics from HU Berlin, and a MSc in computer science from TU Berlin.

David Hinrichs

Junior Data Scientist

David Hinrichs specialises in nonparametric statistics and signal processing methods as well as their application to sensor data. Outside of idalab he likes to write open research software to help scientists translate data into knowledge.
David holds a BSc in Physics from Heidelberg University and currently pursues a MSc in Mathematics at HU Berlin.

Noa Malem Shinitski

Junior Data Scientist

Noa Malem Shinitski specialises in Bayesian methods and State-Space models. Since joining idalab she has been applying these skills in different fields, from assignment problems to cash flow prediction. Being a long time user of Python, Noa gives back to the Python community by being a co-organiser of the Berlin PyData meetup group. Noa holds a BSc in Physics and Computer Science from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and is perusing MSc in Computational Neuroscience at TU Berlin.

Hagen Hoferichter

Junior Data Scientist

Hagen Hoferichter specializes in the unification of machine learning and embedded devices in the Internet of Things era. As a hardware and software engineer, he delivered on several projects in research and industry ranging from transistor level to high-level APIs.
Hagen holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Applied Science in Münster. Currently, he is pursuing an MSc in Computer Engineering with a strong focus on machine learning at TU Berlin.
