Dr. Paul von Bünau is managing director at idalab with more than ten years experience in leading and implementing cutting-edge data science projects. For our clients, Paul focuses on integrating strategy, methodology, and product perspectives. He previously worked at SAP, Fraunhofer, Deutsche Bank, and RDRS Bangladesh. Paul holds a PhD in data science from TU Berlin, an MSc in pure mathematics (St Andrews, Scotland) and a BSc in computer science.

Office Manager and Executive Assistant
Juliane Gottschlag takes on the role of an Executive Assistant at idalab, as well as being responsible for Office Management, Controlling, and Finance & Payroll. She gained vast experience in process and project management on various European wide projects in advertising agencies in Prague and Germany. Prior to joining idalab, she applied her excellent organisational skills as Executive Assistant of a Berlin based research institute for the brewing industry. Juliane holds a diploma in Social Sciences with a focus on Business Ethics and Intercultural Communication from the International Graduate School Zittau.

Erik has a deep passion for value creation through advanced analytics and machine learning. At idalab, he focuses on the design and implementation of predictive solutions in durables, med-tech and wholesale industries. He has over 25 years international experience as digital expert, general manager and strategy consultant. Past roles include President of Carl Zeiss Sports Optics North America, VP Corporate Development for Hilti AG and Carl Zeiss AG as well as Principle at The Boston Consulting Group. He lived 13 years in the US, and his formal education includes a PhD in quantum optics from the University of Arizona and an MBA from INSEAD.

Senior Data Scientist
Lea Helmers is specialised in machine learning with a focus on natural language processing. She joined idalab in 2016 and, since then, has worked in data science projects in various fields of application. Lea holds a BSc in mathematics from FU Berlin, a BA in linguistics from HU Berlin, and a MSc in computer science from TU Berlin.

Hagen Hoferichter specializes in the unification of machine learning and embedded devices in the Internet of Things era. As a hardware and software engineer, he delivered on several projects in research and industry ranging from transistor level to globe-spanning cloud architectures. Hagen holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Applied Science in Münster and a MSc in Computer Engineering with a strong focus on machine learning from TU Berlin.

Kirstin has worked as a scientist at the University of Alberta and KIT and has specialized in modeling complex molecular behavior to improve drug development techniques. At idalab she applies her analytical thinking skills and her research experience to complex business scenarios.
Kirstin holds a Master of Science in Energy and Process Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Her final thesis won a Prize from the Scientific Community of Technical Thermodynamics for being outstanding.

David Hinrichs specialises in nonparametric statistics and signal processing methods as well as their application to sensor data. Outside of idalab he likes to write open research software to help scientists translate data into knowledge. David holds a BSc in Physics from Heidelberg University and currently pursues a MSc in Mathematics at HU Berlin.

Gillian is a biodata specialist with a particular focus on the intersection between biodata and target identification. She has vast experience in both academia and industry. Prior to joining idalab, Gillian worked in the R&D department of Bayer AG as a data scientist, with a special focus on developing solutions for insecticide tolerance. She holds a PhD in microbiology from the Humboldt University, where she worked on host-pathogen interactions. She is a beach volleyball fanatic and loves playing with her adorable 1-year old son.

Benjamin specialises in nonparametric and semiparametric regression models. As a former tutor in statistics at TU Berlin, he has a deep understanding of statistical concepts. At idalab, he currently brings his expertise to optimization projects for clients in the mobility sector. Benjamin holds a BSc in Industrial Engineering and Management from TU Berlin, where he focused on mechanical engineering. He is pursuing the corresponding MSc from TU Berlin, specialising in information and communication systems, with a strong focus on statistics and machine learning.

Hannah Martin holds a BA in Theatre and Media Studies from Universität Bayreuth and completed a four years Screenwriting course at the prestigious German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb). However, being constantly afflicted with insatiable curiosity, she decided to search for a job in uncharted territory: somewhere at the pulse of innovation and ideas that will shape all of our future. Hannah found idalab, where she now applies her creative mind, excellent management abilities, as well as her solution-focused nature to numerous internal operations and client projects, ranging from Communications and Branding to complex recruiting missions in various disciplines.

At idalab, Lisa Martin designs strategy and concepts for advanced analytics projects in the public sector and the mobility sector. In addition, she is working to expand idalab’s strategic competencies in the field of privacy preserving technologies. Prior to joining idalab, Lisa applied her analytical skills in management consulting and the automotive sector. Lisa is an economist by training. She recently graduated from the University of Oxford with distinction, having completed the MSc in Economics for Development. In addition, she holds a BSc in International Economics with a strong focus on econometrics from the University of Tübingen.

Junior Data Scientist
As a Junior Data Scientist, Ingmar Schubert helps clients in the mobility and healthcare sector to optimize their processes. Prior to joining idalab, he applied his analytical skills and machine learning expertise as a freelancer. He is currently pursuing his MSc in physics at the Humboldt University of Berlin and at the University of Ottawa, developing quantum theoretical descriptions of complex molecules in strong fields. Ingmar holds a BSc in physics from HU Berlin, where he graduated as top of his class.

Junior Data Innovation Designer
Jeanette Knipp is a designer who specialises in the intersection of physical and digital product design that aims at a positive impact. At idalab, she focuses on UX and UI design, developing concepts that enable the visualisation of and interaction with complex data. Putting the human at the centre of her work, she pays great attention to intuitive design and functionality. Jeanette is currently pursuing her B.A. in industrial design at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

Junior Data Science
Lukas specialises in time series analysis, forecasting, and optimization. Prior to idalab, he worked as a software developer and tester in the financial industry: at a boutique hedge fund (JRC Capital), Deutsche Bank, and HSBC Global Asset Management. Lukas studied quantitative finance and statistics at Frankfurt and Harvard. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science at the TU Berlin where he focuses on probability and measure theory.

Luis specialises in functional analysis, nonlinear optimisation and stochastic models and has a strong background in machine learning methodologies. At idalab, he has been applying his expertise to projects in the mobility sector. Luis holds a BSc in Mathematics and is currently pursuing the corresponding MSc degree, both at TU Berlin. For his master thesis he is working on building a framework that aims at improving the explanation of neural network decisions.

Intern Data Engineering
Hong specializes in data engineering and testing infrastructures, particularly on infrastructure deployment for cloud-native technologies. Prior to joining idalab, she worked as a software developer at the Human-Centered Computing research group, with a focus on data mining and database techniques. Hong studied Korean Language and Literature at the Beijing Foreign Studies University prior to developing a keen interest in data science. She is currently completing an BSc in Computer Science from the Free University of Berlin. In her free time, she enjoys spinning classes and learning new languages (sometimes we wonder why, as she has already mastered four, including German).

Rouven specializes in detecting anomalies in data and focuses on client projects in the healthcare industry. He completed a Master’s in Engineering Science from the Technical University in Berlin, where he focused on soft robotics and in-hand manipulation of objects. He also spent a formative year in China’s prestigious Tsinghua University, where he worked as a lab researcher and created a soft robot hand from scratch. He is currently completing a Bachelor in Business Administration from the Berlin School of Economics and Law. In his free time, of which he has little, he enjoys playing the guitar, reading, and developing software.
